I have a rearend that came out of a fbody car which is a five lug. I was wondering if anyone has ever converted there dak to 5 lug. If you have parts list and info will be greatly appreciated

I just talked about that a few days ago with lsrt (AKA Chuck). Options on the rear are easy. New axles cut for the dakota rearend, or swap to something else. The front is more of a challenge. It would require hubs and rotor. My thought was to plug a set of dakota hubs, and drill them with the 5 lug pattern. A rotor could also be plugged and drilled as well, but a ram rotor may work (not sure). But then you would have the question of the center bore of the wheel matching the center lip of the hub.
Another problem would be future replacement options. If you had to replace the hub or rotor, it would require the same custom work again.
I did run across a thread that discussed a 2001 ram 1500 hub being 5 lug, and with the same spindle size as at the dakota r/t. Maybe I need to pick up a hub at auto zone this week and measure it.

I thought I read somewhere were some one used a gen 1 hub assembly. But I can't find anything about it now

It has been done, but just as you mention the info seems to be gone from everywhere. AFAIK the early Dakota 5 lug hubs and rotors are a bolt on for the front, and then you switch the rear axles out for 5 lug flanges. I don't think the entire axle carrier can be swapped unless you want the smaller rear end. Its been so long since I looked into this I'm not sure if I'm right or not.

Unfortunately, early dakota hubs do not fit, because they bolt to the spindle with 4 bolts, as seen below. Although it would give you 5 X 4.5 bolt pattern, which is pretty desirable. But... I have been scouring the websites, parts stores and junkyards, and have the EASY answer.

03 durango or 03-04 dakota front spindles calipers brake lines, 01 ram hub assembly, and I wana say 00 ford f150 4x4 front brake rotors all bolts up and works nicely

If you want to do the 5 lug conversion, you want to use one of the more common bolt patterns. And look for something that has at least 18 or 20 X 9, with about 25mm (1 inch)offset as the OEM size and spacing.

I've often wondered about the design process at Dodge. The Dakota 6 lug hub was one of the reasons I believe the Dodge execs think their customers are idiots. The reason for going to a higher number of bolts is not because the engineer thinks "more bolts are better". Like the ring gear in a typical rear end, the diameter of the part is one of the main factors in the power handling capability of that part. This is why builders pull out 7 3/4 rears and install a 9 inch, and why the Chrysler 9.25 and Dana 60 are such torque-handling monsters. The number of bolts is raised to improve the mechanical connection of a larger diameter bolt circle. Putting more bolts in the circle without increasing the circle diameter does nothing. Well, it prevents us from having a wheel aftermarket, just as the closed and outdated Dodge electronics prevented us from having much of a engine performance aftermarket.
Really, I think Dodge has nothing but contempt for their customers. Hopefully Fiat cures them of that, but I'm not going to wait for it.
