Ok. I want to give everyone an update on the past week. I don't have pictures to show because it has been phone calls and wiring.
I contacted Bill at BP automotive when my ECU wouldn't wake up. I will say this guy has been extremely difficult to work with. I wouldn't recommend his wiring service to anyone. Up front, he had great sales skills. But almost 3 months of waiting for a basic LS3 wiring harness, and it doesn't work.
Like I said, I contacted him when the ECU wouldn't wake up. I had wasted about 6 hours checking all of the relays, fuses, wiring connections without success prior to calling him. He had me check pin 19 on connector 1 for switched power, and 20 for continuous power, and 73 for ground. Then he said something like "also, pin 47 should have switched power. But, I don't know. Not always. Sometimes we use this and sometimes we don't. I think it's mostly for accessories, so you don't need it".
So, I had correct power on 19 and 20, but nothing on 47. I called Bill back to tell him this. Then he wanted me to send the ECM to him so he could "bench test" it. "Sometimes new ones fail". What a tard.
Wasting another hour or so, I finally stripped back a little of the wiring on the pink wire that was pinned into 47, and applied power. ECU woke up. Throttle blade moved and fuel pump energized. Unhooked, ECU is dead. Reconnected, ECU is working. Verified this about 5 times. So I had to wire a jumper from the switched power on the fuse block to the stripped wire on 47. Now my $1400 wiring harness looks like a free installation kit from Crutchfield.
At this point, I did get the engine running and called Bill to let him know this. Can you believe that F#%k tried to convince me that I didn't need pin 47 at all? What a jackass. He babbled about "Maybe one of my guys broke the wire when they put it in. Not sure why there is a wire on pin 47 at all. Maybe pin 47 is powering 19 (?). We have never sent out a harness with a bad splice." And on, and on, and on. The guy makes no freaking sense at all.
Then I made the video, and I was pissed.
So when we finally hooked it up to HP Tuners, it turns out the ECU had a Camaro L99 base tune, so we disabled DOD and VVT, and gave it a more appropriate tune for the supercharger and injectors, and it started up and idled pretty good. I have very short straight pipes with O2 sensors in them, which was messing with the fuel trim, so we put it into open loop and locked it there.
The transmission, on the other hand, wouldn't show up at all. This is something Bill told me would happen. The E38 ECU started in 2008, but my transmission is 2007, so the TCM can't be seen at all. I ordered a 2010 TCM, so i will have to replace that when it comes in later this week, and try tuning again.
I did drive it all over the back of the neighborhood, open pipes and all. Sound bad ass. Unfortunately, it is locked in 3rd gear, but it still runs great.
If I had to do it again, I would have sold this transmission and bought a 2008+ so I didn't have to change out the TCM. Oh well.
